Hey, I'm Mike - or Michael, I thought Mike sounded cool. Haha
I've recently came to the end of active service with the United States Marine Corps. I joined out of Dallas, Ga. During my time, one thing we did really well was clean. Of course I hated it at first, but I grew not to mind it. Awhile later I started to appreciate that things were cleaner around Marines. The MCX (equivalent to a Target) was cleaner and its parking lot was cleaner, The Barracks (like apartments) were cleaner - especially after field day! Where we would clean until your room and the whole building was ready to be inspected by many meticulous white gloves, literally! (See Full Metal Jacket) while I didn't appreciate this level of clean, I was dedicated to the cause. I still am - when out and about, I generally pick up trash that I see. I noticed a phenomenon that when I cleaned, others would be inspired to clean around me! (maybe reluctantly) but they were still doing it! Rather if I'm home with my wife, cooking with family, or camping with friends - I am always followed in the endeavor of cleaning up around me and policing my area. I thought we're already outside, we bring the trash, it's that easy to at least throw away the trash you make, let alone recycle it. I might as well do my part. This got me thinking, "How could I incentivize people to clean up more when they're outside?" Behold "MikeOffroad" came to mind. It felt personal, it was Offroad - which to me meant anything outside, which is where I like to spend a lot of time - , and it was a way for me to incentivize people to come together and keep "Doin' Our Part". I'm hoping to give away raffles, or money, or cars, or whatever to get people to see MikeOffroad Doin' our part, so we can inspire others to do theirs too.
